I’ve been working in the Data Capture / Point of Sale industry (that’s DC/POS to nerds in the know) since 2006. I got my start doing phone support for customers and handling email support requests. After about a year of that, the higher ups noticed I had pretty solid info retention and could write passable content, and so they got me working on writing product listings for our site, POSGuys.com. I started off taking about a week to get a good description, imagery, and pricing set up, but now I can crank out an average product (easy to find graphics, less than ten unique options) in about a workday. I don’t know if the quality’s any better yet, though.

Prior to jumping into this industry, I was studying to become a math teacher while providing computer lab management for Western Washington University’s Residential Technology Program. So I’m definitely using my education to the fullest.

Any idea which ones are most commonly used for retailers? I’m doing a project and need to figure out which retailers can scan a bar code off of a phone. I’m not having very much luck finding any sort of list. Thanks for your help.

Hi Alex, there are plenty of barcode scanners that can read off a mobile phone, usually linear imagers or 2D imagers. The Honeywell Xenon 1900 and Motorola DS9808 are two fantastic examples.
